Week 4 Post 1: Differences in Target Market

I decided to go with Subway and Hungry Bear for my comparisons. Subway and Hungry Bear are both sandwich shops where you can customize your orders, both offering similar options on their menus.

Subway is a food chain deli that offers sandwiches, salads, and wraps. Everything at subway can be customized to your liking, with meats, toppings, and sauces. Their menu is very affordable and they are known for their $5 foot-long sandwiches, since it's football season right now they have a deal if you buy 2 footlongs you get one for free known as "footlong season" which is being promoted on the websites home page, the website has colors or green and yellow, and photos of their app to gain points. It has the list of locations to find the closest location near you along with addresses and phone numbers.

Subways' slogan is "Eat Fresh", they have clean and high-quality ingredients. They also offer a low-calorie menu called "Fresh Fit" which all the sandwiches have veggies, multigrain, and protein. Subway has an app where you can order food on your phone or on a computer on their website. They are partnered with UberEats, GrubHub, Postmates, and DoorDash so you can get the food delivered to you.

Hungry Bear is a small owned business with only one deli located in Vista, CA. Their website homepage has a bear holding a sandwich and a big smile which is very friendly and welcoming, bright colors such as red, green, and white is what most of the website is made of. They have images of their bear's favorite sandwiches on the home page and is voted best subs and salads in San Diego. Their menu consists of sandwiches, burgers, salads, and breakfast omelet subs. The website is easy to navigate with a nice layout, they have contact information, hours, and online ordering available, no apps so you can only order online or by phone. Their social media platforms are promoted on their website, they have Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Yelp with the same content on all platforms.

The main differences I noticed from the two websites was that the Hungry Bear had a more family orientated environment versus the corporate environment from Subway. Prices at Hungry Bear were higher than the prices compared to Subways $5 footlong and always offered coupons and discounts on special offeres promoted on their website and app. I belive that Subway would have customers that go to multiple sandwhich shops, but for the Hungry Bear since it's a small owned with only one location they have a loyal base following. Subway audience is more of the younger population like High schools and College student who seek budget friendly menus, and The Hungry Bear is an older audience with long time loyalties, customers have been going to that location for many years.
