Week 13: Part A: Online Advertising - Analysis of the Marketplace

Part A: Online Advertising - Analysis of the Marketplace

  1. Look for examples of advertising or sponsored posts on FaceBook and other social media. What draws your attention? My Facebook gave me ads such as Taco Bell and Anthropologie, I love both of these companies so it draws my attention when they are advertising deals on their clothes or free tacos from taco bell for signing up with their app.
  2.  What is their call to action? Their call to action is to get you to purchase their clothes and items they have in stores and to download their app and create an account.
  3.  Do they use imagery and is it effective? They use imagery, and bold colors for example Taco Bell was advertising their Dorito taco, which was displayed with flames and colors like orange, red, and purple. Anthropology is more on the neutral side with color pallete like cream, dusty brown, beige and vintage gold displaying their new dresses, and sweaters for winter.
  4. Which ads are annoying? I have been recently receiving a lot more Christmas ads and deals on gifts, some of these ads can be useful but some can be annoying because they continue to show items that I am not interested in such as some eyelash companies advertising magnetic lashes and random companies I've never heard of so they seem a little sketchy to order from.
  5. if you click on their link what did it go to? I clicked on a link that was by Canva, it brought up an option to try Canva Pro for 30 days free, or get Canva for free, I selected Canva free and it took me to their website to create an account.
  6. Compare the impact of traditional advertising (in newspapers, magazines, billboards, radio, TV, etc.) on advertising done on Social Media. Which seems more effective to you? Social media advertising is definitely more effective than any of the traditional advertising because social media is such a huge platform for free advertising done within seconds all at the palm of your hands. Your post can be easily shared, liked, or saved and you can even go viral overnight. A lot of the traditional platforms are not used on a daily basis, such as newspapers, radio, and magazines. I can't remember the last time I used any of those, and TV is also not as popular anymore, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and DisneyPlus are the new forms of TV without commercials to interrupt, radios are not used as much because of Spotify, Pandora and Apple music. So without a doubt, social media is way more beneficial than any other form of advertisement.
